  • Michael McKelvey, Carnegie Mellon University

    Michael McKelvey has taught, performed, and directed throughout the U.S. Earning his doctorate from the University of Texas at Austin in vocal performance, Michael has served as the Director of Musical Theatre at Tulane University, Fort Lewis College and St. Edward’s University, Head of Musical Theatre Voice at Point Park University, and currently is on the faculty at Carnegie Mellon University as an Assistant Professor of Musical Theatre and Voice. In addition to his academic work, Michael is an award-winning director, music director and producer. He was the artistic director of Summer Lyric Theatre in New Orleans and Durango Theatreworks in Colorado, and is the co-founder and former artistic director of Summer Stock Austin, a critically-acclaimed one-of-a-kind program teaming college and high school theatre makers into a powerhouse repertory theatre company. Currently, he is rebranding his own production company, Doctuh Mistuh Productions, for Pittsburgh and will relaunch it as Rogue Artists Theatre this August. The company will specialize in bringing off-Broadway works to regional audiences. Along with his passion for song coaching and vocal pedagogy, Dr. McKelvey is a musical theatre historian and is currently in the final phases of completing his book, Essential Musicals: Off-Broadway Musicals-The Fantasticks to Heathers.
