Theater: Carnegie Mellon

The Carnegie Mellon School of Drama is the oldest degree-granting drama program in the United States, founded in 1914 as a division of the College of Fine Arts at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA. The school offers a vocationally focused education to theatre artists through rigorous conservatory training in all areas of dramatic practice. The undergraduate acting, musical theatre, directing, design, dramaturgy, and production and technology management majors are considered to be among the top programs in undergraduate conservatory training. The Department of Dance at NYU Tisch offers an intensive program for students committed to entering the profession as dancers or choreographers. It seeks exceptionally talented students who are ready to commit to the standards of professional work with a full range of technical training. Technique and compositional skills are taught by working professionals in the New York dance world, from which guest teachers and choreographers are also drawn. Performance opportunities are available throughout the 4-year program, culminating in a professional experience within a resident company setting. The overall aim is to develop dancers who are fully able to participate in the wide range of work that encompasses today’s dance world. The dance program is part of the Institute of Performing Arts along with Drama, Performance Studies, and Design for Stage & Film as well as Graduate Acting and Musical Theater Writing at Tisch School of the Arts in New York City.
