Audition Techniques: The audition is an opportunity to share your work and uncover your artistic sensibilities of who you are and the artist you are growing. It is an opportunity to “live truthfully in imaginary circumstance”. Your preparation, ability to be present, choice of material, play, openness to adjustments, are all opportunities we will explore. We will consider the scaffolding that you can put in place that allows you to do your best work as often as possible.
Movement: In this course we will be engaging the body to awaken the imagination, because our wise actor bodies know more than our minds. Let’s see what they have to teach us by turning off our brains and playing. That means we will be leaping, jumping and running so bring your play clothes! The ones you don’t mind rolling around in.
Shakespeare: The class will focus on exploring tools that will assist the student when playing Shakespeare. Students will acquire skills that lead to a clearer understanding and performance of the text and develop ease and confidence in performance.
Viewpoints: Students will engage in a vigorous physical warm up at the top of every class designed to increase the actor’s use of breath and sound, focus and presence. This class will include ensemble-based exercises and improvisations based on Viewpoints training that will bring each unique ensemble of actors together in an impulsive moment-to-moment playground to ready the body, voice, and mind for our acting work.
Contemporary Monologues and Self Tapes: In this course we will focus on the acting and auditioning of your contemporary monologues as well as address common mistakes in the audition process. We will focus on storytelling, self-taping, structure, and bringing yourself to the material.
